Last Sunday, First Congregational in Albuquerque had the joy of welcoming Renata Yazzie, a Diné musicologist and pianist, to lead them in worship. Renata brought wonderful stories and songs from her work with the Navajo Hymnal and its history of translation. Many expressed how powerful and meaningful it was to have Renata with them and that there were so many rich messages and insights that she shared.

Rev. Stephen  Miller will serve as the interim pastor at Church of the Good Shepherd in Albuquerque while Pastor Sarah is on sabbatical.  Rev. Miller (M.Div. Lexington Theological Seminary, D. Min. San Francisco Theological Seminary) grew up in Albuquerque, served Disciples of Christ churches in Kentucky, California, Colorado, and Michigan before returning to Albuquerque in 2001. In New Mexico he served as interim pastor for Church of the Good Shepherd and for Disciples and Presbyterian churches as well as being on Presbytery staff and being acting director of the NM Conference of Churches.

Pastor Tom at Desert Palm is going to be leading an anti-racism storytelling group to start in late September and going into October. Folks will be sharing stories with each other about their most formative experiences around race in an effort to engage in the ongoing work of decentering whiteness.
