Conversation in Person with Actual Other People on Race

3 p.m., Sunday, August 18th at First Church UCC Phoenix

In early July, church member, Alejandro Chavez participated in a Facebook thread with his friend Dan Carroll. The thread was long and various people weighed in on various levels.

They decided to take the conversation from the phone/computer screen to an in-person conversation, about Race (Brownness, Blackness, Indigenous, AAPI, etc and Whiteness) in our community.

This event is open to everyone and the goal of the community conversation is to define shared terms and understand each other (why white people call the police when they are afraid and people of color’s fears of calling the police), and to break bread with each other. We will be speaking from personal experience, so please invite those who are impacted to share their story. Please do not speak for others, we wan to hear from you about YOUR experience. We will have a facilitator so everyone can participate.

Please feel free to bring a favorite dish to share with others. This is a family friendly event.
