The Aliento Club at MCC is hosting a presentation by Victor Aronow, an immigration lawyer and member of Uncage and Reunite Families Coalition.

Since this is the 10 year reunion of SB1070, he presents the politics and racism behind US immigration policy from the very beginning in 1790, then explores the development of US financial and economic influence that the US exerted and still exerts over Latin America. This influence laid the groundwork for refugees to flee their countries because of violence and poor economic conditions which were exacerbated by climate change. Finally, The presentation addresses the evolving responses of the Trump administration, ending in Remain in Mexico, etc., and the efforts of organizations like Refugee Aid to continue to provide direct assistance on the other side of the border.

This presentation also explores the influence of the United States in Latin America and how the history of US domination of the region and climate change have created the influx of refugees who seek asylum in our country. Finally, the presentation addresses some of the chaotic and illegal immigration policies of the Trump administration and the work of local refugee aid organizations.

This Powerpoint is prepared by Victor Aronow, a Phoenix attorney, ESL teacher, founder of Radio Phoenix, and volunteer attorney with the Florence Project, Refugee Aid, and Uncage and Reunite Families Coalition.
