Civil rights legislation in the NM House

from Taos UCC

Please support HB192 to protect the civil rights of all New Mexicans

We have a strong nondiscrimination law in New Mexico, but it can and should be even stronger. Our most vulnerable New Mexicans must be clearly and explicitly protected from discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity when using government or government-funded services. Imagine being stuck in years of court battles after you have been harmed arguing over whether or not we intended the Human Rights Act to apply to government agencies and publicly-funded entities.  It is far past time that we close this loophole - and make it clear that tax-payer dollars cannot be used for discriminatory practices in New Mexico.

House Bill 192 the Human Rights Act Modernization bill is on its way to the full House of Representatives, and in partnership with our colleagues at Equality New Mexico, Lambda Legal is asking our community to contact your representative in the to ask them to support HB 192, which expands the Human Rights Act to provide comprehensive nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ New Mexicans receiving government and government-funded services. Please email your Senator and Representative directly.  Thank you for your help to secure LGBTQ+ rights in New Mexico.
