Shadow Rock UCC visits the ICE Field Office at 11:00 a.m. on the 17th of every month. They use this time to stand with our immigrant neighbors and their families, make a prayer or statement, and pass out water and snacks for those waiting in line for appointments.

United of Santa Fe's Youth Initiates Write Op-Ed on Immigration, Dreamers, and the "Wall"

The Sunday after United's Youth Initiates helped lead "El NIno Jesus Needs Our Help"on Epiphany, they took time (with Pam Hyde's guidance) to write an op-ed commentary on immigration and particularly protection for the DACA dreamers. 

For our Youth Initiates (as for many of the rest of us) there is a direct connection between what their faith as Christians teaches them and what they believe our country should stand for and how we welcome the stranger and care for those in need.

Environmental Day at the Legislature

February 7 is Environmental Day at the Legislature. Arizona Interfaith Power & Light's goal is to get 100 members from Arizona's faith community  to advocate for clean air, land and water and promote clean energy.  Can you join then and recruit two or three people from your congregation?

At 12 noon on February 7, as part of E-Day at the Legislature, Arizona Interfaith Power & Light will produce an Interfaith Prayer Circle in the Capitol Rose Garden.

Montecito mudslides prompt UCC pastor displaced by wildfires to serve

As rescuers in California urgently search for more missing people in the deadly mudslides that devastated the Montecito community, a United Church of Christ minister is pastoring to the stricken and the injured.

The Rev. Kris Bergstrom, pastor of Church of the Foothills in Ventura, Calif., also serves as a part-time chaplain at the local hospital in Montecito.

"I was the village school principal in Montecito for 8 years more than a decade ago, so I consider all the people involved in the Montecito crisis my family," she said. "I have close ties with so many families."

New Mexico Conference of Churches Withdraws Assets from Wells Fargo

Albuquerque, NM, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 -- Today the New Mexico Conference of Churches (Conference) announced it has removed its assets from Wells Fargo in protest of their corporate behavior.  In the fall of 2017, the Board voted unanimously to move its assets to an investment manager who will respect the collective values of the member churches. The transfer of assets is now complete.

NCC Condemns Obscene Remarks by President Trump

President Trump’s obscene remarks, reported yesterday — in which he described Haiti, El Salvador, and African countries as “s***thole countries” — were deeply disturbing. The National Council of Churches unequivocally condemns these statements.

Further, President Trump’s stated preference for immigrants from nations such as Norway, combined with numerous other comments he has made over past years, reveals a deep-seated racism that is unacceptable.  These attitudes must be publicly rejected by all people of faith.  The very soul of our nation is at stake.

As Dr. King said, “A time comes when silence is betrayal.” We cannot remain silent at a time like this in the life of our nation
