This was the fifth year that United Church of Sun City led Sun City’s Sunrise Service at the Sun Bowl. With nearly 800 people in attendance, many volunteers from the church assisted with the service. The choir reprised the Palm Sunday Cantata for the gathering music from 6:30 – 7 a.m. and worship began at 7 a.m. Pastor Brady Abel preached. and communion was served.

The North Central Phoenix community doesn’t have to look hard to find evidence of the spiritual force and legacy that was Reverend Dr. Culver H. “Bill” Nelson D.D., L.H.D. A simple drive along Glendale Avenue is punctuated by his touch. Traveling central Glendale Avenue west, you’ll find The Church of the Beatitudes which he founded in 1954, and eight blocks west The Beatitudes Campus, a retirement complex, also founded by Dr. Nelson in 1965. Nelson was an integral part of the Phoenix business, spiritual and social fabric for many years contributing to labor-management relations, the arts, transportation, education, care of the elderly and the mentally ill.

For Such a Time as This: A Wellness Series for the Second Half of Life

At First Congregational Church of Flagstaff on Saturday afternoons, 2–4 p.m. beginning in February. All are welcome!

This series will address some of the questions that arise when we or loved ones move into and through the second half of life.

Led by specialists on various topics, we’ll learn about ways to

  • identify the challenges, questions, and options we have,

  • embrace the opportunities that present themselves and

  • develop meaningful conversations with family, friends, professionals on several topics that face us as we get older.

It is a series, but you may attend one or several or all. There is no charge, except for the final session when the American Red Cross will offer CPR Training.
