Common Ground on the Border Event

January 12th and 13th at the Good Shepherd UCC in Sahuarita

Common Ground on the Border & Border Issues Fair is a two-day event(January 12 and 13th), featuring classes in art, music and a variety of lectures. The US-Mexico Borderlands have always been a beautiful mix of culture, language, cuisine, economies and people. It has also been a place of struggle, high and low temperatures, a fragile environment, and the push and pull of immigration. Common Ground on the Border is a unique gathering where the deep artistic and cultural roots of the Borderlands are lifted up and conversation is created that bring us across borders and move us to common ground.

Hosted by the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ---Common Ground on the Border and the Border Issues Fair, gives space for people to participate in the entire experience or just parts of it. On Friday and Saturday afternoons, we will have music, art, writing and dance classes in our Common Ground on the Border program.  On Saturday morning, we will be presenting the 14th Annual Santa Cruz Valley Border Issues Fair with stimulating national and international scholars and activists sharing their perspectives on our current border and immigration crisis. In addition, there will be excursions to the border and into the desert on Friday morning. And, of course, each evening there will be a dynamic concert---Friday’s Concert will feature Holly Near.
