Church Jottings week ending 6/1/18

Encanto is holding its Second Annual Kennel Club Dog Show on June 10th, 8-10 AM.

And speaking of animals, Encanto youth are holding a fundraiser on June 9th, 9-noon where pet-created artwork will be available for sale.

First Congregational of Albuquerque is holding a Non-Event Fundraiser to benefit youth and family ministries. Participants can pick their favorite “She Persisted” representative (Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, Margaret Sanger, Eleanor Roosevelt) by casting a vote along with a check into the ballot box.

First Church Phoenix is holding a “Needs Exchange” on June 10th. Participants will list 5 things they can provide and 5 things they need. These are posted and folks can spend some time putting connections together. This is based on the belief that communities are made stronger when each person realizes their capacity to contribute to and receive from one another.

The “Summer Cinema for Grownups” film for June 11th at Shadow Rock is “I Am Not Your Negro” at 7PM.

The Good Shepherd in Sahuarita will celebrate JUNETEENTH, African American Independence Day, by showing the film “The Long Shadow” which covers African American history from pre-USA thru today. June 19th, 2-4 PM

Rev Bob Macfarlane will be the Acting Pastor during July and August at Casas Adobes. Rev Bob is an old friend of the SWC having served as an interim at Scottsdale UCC. Welcome back, Bob!

Church of the Beatitudes is asking members to pick up and fill a shoebox with toiletries and other items for homeless men. They will be distributed on Father’s Day.

Congratulations to Rev Cindy Parker, pastor at Church of the Red Rocks in Sedona, upon the graduation of her youngest daughter who is now headed to Sweden as a US student ambassador!

Church of the Red Rocks has awarded the 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award to Stephanie Dunshee who gave over 100 hours of service to the church.

Northern Arizona Unaccompanied, an a cappella octet from NAU, will perform at Church of the Red Rocks on June 10th at 2 PM.

On Tues June 12th at 8 AM, Church of the Palms in Sun City will hold a Continental Fellowship Breakfast with speaker Jill Ellis. Ellis will talk about the various types of yoga and demonstrate some poses.

Congregational Church of the Valley is hosting 3 theater camps for youth 5-18. First performance, Thriller at the Oscars, will be June 15th at 1:30 and 7:30. Two additional camps follow with performances on June 29th and July 20th.

Pastor Jay Wilcher of First Congregational of Prescott is the VP of the Coalition of Compassion and Justice, a community group that serves needs in Prescott. This summer, CCJ is attempting to provide school supplies for all students in three schools in the area.

First Prescott is also collecting $500 to help a DACA student cover the cost of his application to apply for for continued status.
