Jottings 11/11/19

A 20-member I-HELP Committee at Church of the Palms worked for several months planning and preparing to host I-HELP, a temporary housing program for the homeless, every Monday evening which began 10/28/19. Many volunteers have committed to drive the bus, provide food and stay overnight in addition to financial support. Congratulations, COTP!  Super mission project!  

From Taos UCC:  "Just this morning I received news that Taos UCC has been chosen to receive a grant for $40,000 from the national UCC’s New and ReNewing Spiritual Communities Grant. The grant is a matching grant based on what we raise locally over the next 18 months. THANK YOU to everyone who helped with our grant application and on the visioning behind it. I am so grateful to be a part of this growing, amazing community."

We have been notified that United Church of Sun City and Pastor Brady Abel are recipients of the 2019 Clergy Renewal Grant, sponsored by the Lilly Endowment. They are one of one hundred fifty congregations receiving funds to help with sabbatical costs.

American Heretics: The Politics of the Gospel, a first run independent documentary, will be screened at The Good Shepherd in Sahuarita on Nov 15th at 3 pm.  The film highlights a group of defiant ministers, congregations, and community leaders challenging deeply rooted fundamentalist Christian doctrine in favor of a Gospel of Inclusion.

You are all invited to attend a jazz concert on Friday, November 15th at 7 pm at Desert Palm in Tempe.  The Claudia Bloom/Mary Petrich jazz quartet presents women in jazz! Featuring the music of women composers and musicians from past and present, celebrating contemporary women in jazz with special guests Sheila Early, Julianne Colwell and Monica Shriver. 

Scottsdale UCC and others are calling on people of faith and people of conscience from across the country to flood the courtroom on November 20th in Tucson, Arizona to show the huge support of Scott Warren, Human Rights activist facing 20 years of jail for providing life-saving aid to migrants in the desert. RSVP HERE.

Shepherd of the Hills is being honored by Arizona Interfaith Power and Light with their S.A.G.E. (Spirited Activists Greening Earth) award in recognition and appreciation for their good work over many years to preserve Creation as well as their unflagging support of AZIPL! They will be presented with this award at AZIPL's 10th anniversary celebration on November 21.
