At Church of the Red Rocks on Feb 18th at 4:30 pm, visiting professor Dr. Thomas Just will speak on "Confronting Antisemitism in Today's Germany and Poland."  Dr. Just is in the School of Politics and Global Studies at ASU.  Description75 years after the defeat of Nazi Germany, Europe continues to experience an alarming rate of anti-Semitic incidents. This problem has been compounded by a resurgence of far-right and ultranationalist groups exploiting societal divisions. In this talk, Thomas Just will address the current rise of antisemitism in Germany and Poland and how to develop policies to combat it.

Open to any child, teen and young adult who are grieving the death of someone they love, these no-cost support groups are offered at six locations Valley-wide, including one for Spanish speakers. First Congregational UCC in Albuquerque noticed that several members had moved into their area from Chicago, so is starting a "Chicago fellowship group."  Kind of a fun idea.  Does your church have a significant contingent from a specific city, state, or other area?  Might be a way to get to know folks better by starting with a shared experience.

Black Mountain UCC invites its members to "SPEAK OUT TIME IN WORSHIP" on the 1st Sunday of each month.  It's a chance for folks to share a story or a word about the goodness of God in one's life or the world.

First Congregational UCC Albuquerque is beginning conversations about how to further respond to the needs of Immigrants. They would like to work on their basement apartment space to make room for those who might need a place to stay.

The Good Shepherd in Sahuarita, as part of an interfaith group, last week filed a Brief Opposing Detention of Children with the courts opposing the Trump administrations’ proposal to allow the indefinite detention of migrant children.  The proposal would reverse the decades-old settlement by the government in the Flores case.  That settlement allows the detention of children for no more than 21 days.  The proposal was struck down by a federal judge.  The case is now on appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, where the brief was filed.

Contributions to Oro Valley UCC's January Mission Project for Heifer Int'l totaled $773.00 which will provide 1 Cow, 2 Goats and 2 Flocks of Chicks.  OVUCC will send the funds to Heifer Int'l who will provide the animals, and training for their care, to several families in the world.

UCC pastor and romance novelist Anna Taylor will be preaching at  Church of the Good Shepherd in Albuquerque on Feb. 16! In addition to being a charismatic and engaging preacher, the Rev. Anna Taylor is an accomplished writer of erotic fiction. If you’re blushing, you’re not alone – Rev. Taylor is familiar with some Christians’ initial discomfort with her work. For her, though, there is no contradiction between her faith and her storytelling. Come learn about God’s love in worship and stay for what guarantees to be a thought-provoking lunch, where Anna will talk to us about inspiration, romance, and the beautiful way God weaves them together.
