Each year the United Church of Sun City’s Mission Board choses a local organization to receive funds raised during the Easter Sunrise Service at Sun City’s Sun Bowl. The outreach funds are raised from contributions from people attending the Sunrise Service, this year estimated at nearly 600 people, and are given to organizations and agencies that address the challenges faced by older adults, disadvantaged children, low-income families, victims of domestic abuse and those in need of compassionate care. United Church has led the Sun Bowl Service since 2016.
Sun Valley Lodge and Rock Steady Boxing Phoenix were honored and grateful to have been chosen as this year’s recipients of such a generous gift.
Sun Valley Lodge was the creation of Sun City’s first church (now called United Church of Sun City) over 55 years ago, providing independent and assisted living services; Sun Valley Lodge is the only senior living community in the West Valley certified in Parkinson’s Care through the PMD Alliance.
Rock Steady Boxing Phoenix has been a Valley staple for patients with Parkinson’s Disease for the past five years, helping hundreds of “Fighters” from Barrow Neurological Institute, Banner Neurology, and surrounding institutes slow and stop the progression of their Parkinson’s symptoms through the most significant treatment known for Parkinson’s Disease…exercise!
The nonprofit organizations, sharing the mission of serving those who have Parkinson’s disease recently partnered to knock out Parkinson’s by giving people Parkinson’s patients hope by improving their quality of life through a non-contact boxing-based fitness curriculum.
