Free PPE from Maricopa County Public Health Department

Thanks to Heidi at Shadow Rock UCC for this hot tip!

Jason Nelson, Emergency Planning Specialist with Maricopa County Department of Public Health has shared this information. Feel free to pass it on to anyone that might be interested!

Throughout the COVID pandemic, the Maricopa County Public Health Department has provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to long-term-care, physicians, schools, charitable organizations, etc. They’re currently in the process of demobilizing. They have a variety of both current/unexpired and expired items that can still be used, depending on their intended purpose. There is NO CHARGE for these items, though they ask that you retrieve your items at their Phoenix warehouse.

List of available items:

Unexpired:

  • N95s NIOSH approved (L-188 folding style and L-288 rigid style).  400 per case.  Exp April-June, 2025--large quantities available.

  • Purell Hand Sanitizing Wipes (packages of 1200 wipes). If you’d like to look them up, the wipes are labeled:  9118-02. They expire 12/23. These require a dispenser, not provided! Limited supplies.

No apparent expiration:

  • Sharps containers (various sizes), including, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 gallon—overall quantities are limited and depend upon the size requested.

  • Band-Aids (basic 3” plastic adhesive strips), 2400 per case—limited supplies.

  • McKesson 18-824 Drape/Exam Sheets, 2-ply, 40” x 48”— 100 per case. These are similar to the rolled paper you see on a doctor’s exam table, but in sheets.  Extremely large quantities available.

  • Pleated bouffant caps (head/hair covers), 1000 per case.

Expired items:

They also have a large volume of expired items, which they’re unable to distribute for medical use. Face masks can still be used for general purposes, such as patients, visitors and schools, but not for medical procedures specifically. Certain items come in a variety of units per case, so they can provide specifics upon request. All items are in original packaging:

  • Level 1 medical gowns (many are fluid resistant)—large quantities and vary depending upon brand/size.

  • 3M model 4515 Coveralls in L, XL and 2XL.  These generally have a 3-year shelf life which will be reached in 3/2024, but have not been stored in “ideal” prescribed temperatures (per manufacturer), so should likely be treated as expired.

  • Face masks (3-Ply), generally 2000 per case—large quantities.

  • Face shields, chemistry-class-style goggles—large quantities.

  • Uline/MCR Safety Tomahawk safety glasses—moderate quantities.

  • Zinntex / Zep sanitizing wipes (for countertops, etc), 12-24 cannisters per case—very limited quantities.

  • Various alcohol-based hand sanitizer that’s beyond its “best by date” but still approved by epidemiology for use.   They come in communal sizes (office size), desktop and keychain style, 1.7 oz pocket bottles which great for distributing at various events.
