from United Church of Sun City:

What an overwhelming response to our Angel Tree this year! A Mighty Change of Heart recipients are foster children who will have a Christmas like no other! Your heartfelt purchases will help dozens of children during this difficult time of year as they transition in the foster care system.

Darin at A Mighty Change of Heart thanks you for your generosity especially during this Christmas season!

A prayer for Epiphany:

I am repeating this because I think it is really great.  Several of the youth at Encanto Community UCC have said that they would like to learn about civics since that subject is no longer taught in grade school or high school. Accordingly, two members have agreed to teach a Civics 101 course at the church during the upcoming spring semester. The class will build on the Civics 101 curricula offered by the Sandra Day O’Connor Institute for American for Democracy that is based at the ASU Law School.

Another fun idea from Encanto Community- for “Soup-er Bowl” they are collecting cans of soup for their own food pantry and other groups.  As cans are received, they are placed on a long table laid out as a football field.  As the cans “move” down the field, they get closer and closer to a touchdown.  Last year, five goals were made.  They hope to score higher this year!  What other Souper Bowl ideas are out there?

The Copper Door concert series, held at First Congregational in Prescott, celebrates God’s Gift of Music and is made possible by the Marti Dial Estate.  The next concert is on January 22nd at 6PM.  FLUTE SUMMIT features Dave Russell with Joe Ratner and friends.

Shepherd of the Hills (SOH) is once again serving as a Citrus Drop Off location for St. Mary's Food Bank.  Bring your excess citrus to the SOH campus on Feb 8th or 22nd from 9 am to 3 pm.

Church of the Good Shepherd in Albuquerque has received 95% of their pledge goal toward 40 solar panels for the church. They have received approval from PNM to begin the installation of the panels and Positive Energy Solar is in the process of procuring the materials. The installation should start sometime next month.

The Beatitude’s Jazz Series continues with Tom Wakeling’s “Strings and Things” on Sunday, Jan 19th, from 6-8pm.  The Quartet features Howard Alden on 7-String Guitar, Todd Johnson on 6-String Bass Guitar and Tom Wakeling on 4-String Bass Violin with special guest Dom Moio on drums. "Strings and Things"embraces the vibrant rhythms of Brazil along with an elegant, hard-swinging style.  From exciting Brazilian Choro rhythms to down-home Blues and Jazz, their unique sound is filled with excitement, surprise, and beauty.

Charlie and Marj Wippermann of Casas Adobes, received the Pat Hirschman Spirit of Service Award from Habitat for Humanity Tucson for their dedicated service for 27 years!! Hmmm. Remind you of anyone?

When can you run four red lights, drive down the center of the road, and not exceed 2 mph?  Answer: when you are driving an entry in the Hometown Christmas Parade! On Dec 14th, Church of the Palms volunteers drove their “Feet n’ More” shower trailer in the Glendale parade. They gave out candy canes, rubber duckies, and bars of soap to the spectators!
