It is with great honor and pride that Sun Lakes United Church of Christ congratulates Rev. Dr. Derrick Elliott on receiving his Doctor of Ministry degree on May 6, 2024, from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C.
For the past three years, while completing his education and working on his thesis, Rev. Dr. Elliott has been serving as: a part-time Pastor at both Sun Lakes UCC and Desert Heritage Church UCC/Disciples of Christ in Mesa, AZ; a Military Chaplain; along with serving on several UCC boards and committees.
Sun Lakes UCC surprised Pastor Derrick with a reception and gifts following his return from Washington D.C. on May 11, 2024. We are such a blessed community to have Rev. Dr. Elliott as our shepherd, leading us and worshiping with us each week.

Join Gordon Street and Rev. Dr. Tom Martinez for this seven-week book group using Richard Rohr's Breathing Under Water: Spirituality and the Twelve Steps. We'll start off with a general introduction to the book Monday evening at 7 pm (via Zoom). At each successive Monday gathering we'll discuss two steps to get through the book before summer hits!
Fans of Richard Rohr and anyone struggling with (or who has struggled with) addiction will enjoy the book. And note that Rohr approaches addiction quite broadly, noting that at times we are addicted to a way of thinking!
Please email Gordon or Pastor Tom for the Zoom link.

Church of the Painted Hills says:
We had an amazing 50th anniversary celebration at The Church of the Painted Hills. Worship was wonderful with special music and a very inspirational message by our transitional pastor, Carlos Sosa. It was wonderful to see folks we hadn’t seen for a long time; and everyone enjoyed the fellowship.
Painted Hills has always had very talented musicians, and many of them returned to sing, and play various instruments.
There were over 90 in attendance; and, after worship we had fellowship and music with a delicious meal.
Browse a collection of photographs here.
Watch a replay of the worship service here.

Ever think about how our re-entry non-system promotes return to prison? Come experience how difficult it is to get around the roadblocks upon release from incarceration. You’ll be given your own release status profile with requirements to be fulfilled immediately upon re-entry into the community. Then the fun begins! It will be an enlightening, fun and, sometimes frustrating, morning, and you will leave more sensitive to the “life sentence” that follows those once incarcerated. Come ready to do the work!
