A Gift From South Mountain
In the waning days of the South Mountain Community Church, the remaining members gathered in hopes of continuing a legacy of over 100 years in ministry. Once such gift came in the form of a donation to the Southwest Conference Youth & Outdoor Ministry. On October 22nd, the Youth & Outdoor Ministry gathered to finalize plans for the upcoming Youth Launch on November 12th. The representatives from South Mountain expressed not only an interest at preserving youth ministry but a passion to provide what was offered to their families to the next generation.
"Having been apart of that truly blessed moment in time, I can honestly say that I felt the presence of God in the Conference Office. It was more than the handing off of a fairly large donation. An experience was created through the spirit of love and charity. The stories shared on both sides only enhanced the impact of South Mountain's amazing gift. We are eternally grateful, and blessed to have had them as a part of our beloved family. - Emmery Groomes
Conference Youth Ministries, camp in particular, provide a shelter to escape the sometimes confining social limits for youth. Pushing the bounds of insecurity in the presence of an overwhelming sense of love and compassion form a unique environment for growth and personal reflection. The Youth & Outdoor Ministry here in the Southwest Conference UCCis comprised of youth, young adults and passionate individuals who are willing to give up time and resources to make sure a sense of hope lives on. It is that very same hope that the South Mountain Community Church members spoke of and wished to carry on for generations to come. From the Southwest Conference UCC we say thank you, and promise to make sure the legacy of South Mountain lives on.
