New Mexico Conference of Churches Invites ALL residents of New Mexico to a Commemoration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.
Leaders of churches across New Mexico will gather to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation.
Archbishop Wester of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Santa Fe, Bishop Emeritus Bjornberg of the Rocky Mountain Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and Bishop Vono of the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande will join with leaders of other denominations for this historic event.
New Mexico’s ecumenical gathering is one of thousands of events taking place this year across the globe. The international commemoration is being promoted by the Lutheran-Roman Catholic Commission on Unity.
The theme for the New Mexico commemoration is One Body-Many Members, One Spirit-Many Gifts. It will be a time for Christians from all traditions to recall our history with prayer and song and to mark our movement from conflict to community. The event will include worship and a time for community dialogue led by the Ecumenical Institute for Ministry.
As part of the commemoration, a mass choir will gather under the direction of Fabian Yañez, Director of the Office of Worship of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. They will be singing the world premiere of an anthem composed for this occasion by Jeff Jolly, Music Director of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque.
