The goal of this training is to help participants understand the depth and breadth of racism and its ongoing impact on every aspect of our American lives.

This program is designed to provide an opportunity for participants to engage in deep and thought-provoking examination of internalized and systemic racism. It is an interactive endeavor, utilizing a variety of resources including films, books, exercises, and conversations that fully engage all participants.  This training is tailored to inspire both personal and corporate change. It is the beginning of a journey that can lead to greater human understanding and conciliation.

The program consists of:

Two 2-day (4 hours each day) intensive learning and facilitated discussion. Assignments will be given prior to the first meeting.

Participants will be expected to prepare themselves by reading or viewing material sent to them one week prior to the first session.

Additional material will be provided between sessions.

After these initial 2-day sessions, the facilitators will meet with the group every two weeks for a period of six months for 90-minute sessions, providing additional curated resources to process and solidify their learning.

Facilitators will continue to work with those who are interested in more in-depth study or who wish to facilitate discussion or book study groups in their churches or in the Conference by providing them ongoing support and training.

As indicated, we will thereafter schedule a mutually convenient time and day to have 90- minute follow up sessions every other week. The training will conclude in March 2021. We will explore curated resources, current events and real time scenarios that will integrate the information learned. The fee stated above is includes these sessions. The cost of the books needed are outlined below.

Note from Rev. Carol Reynolds:

It wasn't till I went to order the required texts for the "Deep Dive" program that I realized that the estimated total price of the books is off. A bit of simple math revealed that the cost of "Reading the Gospel from the Margins" wasn't factored in. However, a bit of good news, now that the publisher is shipping books out of its warehouse again and Amazon has plenty of stock, that price has dropped to $17.99. However, this is offset by the fact that Miguel's other book--"Burying White Privilege"--is only available in hardcover and is therefore not $12.99 but $22.00 on Amazon. I did find it for $15.99 at Cokesbury (as well as "Unsettling Truths" for about $1.50 less than Amazon), though you do have to spend $35.00 to get free shipping from them.

Thanks, Carol!
