The Executive Board approved a new Personnel Policy Manual at its January meeting. We are sharing it with our congregations and members in the spirit of full transparency.
The document might also serve our local churches as a template for reviewing and updating their Personnel Policies.
Highlights in this revised Conference policy include:
clarifying called and employed staff classifications
clarifying the benefits offered by the Conference
compliance with the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) where applicable for religious organizations including overtime for employed staff
revising the evaluation process and timeline for called and employed staff
revising the grievance procedure
restructuring the document to eliminate addendums and incorporating all material into the policy itself
Because the SWC is an Arizona corporation, the policy reflects applicable laws for that state; it would need reviewed to ensure compliance with state laws for New Mexico and Texas in order to serve as a template for ministry settings in those locations.
The SWC Personnel Committee invested significant time and energy in this policy work. We are deeply grateful to Charity Gleason-Davis (chair), Janet Leung, Nikki Borrego-Hogan, Rev. Randy Mayer, and Rev. Sarah TevisTownes for their diligence and wisdom. If you have questions about the policy or the process they used to complete their work you may contact them at personnel@uccswc.org.
