Ecclesiastical Council for Rhonda Newby-Torres

Her home church is First Congregational UCC in Albuquerque, NM and she currently serves as the lay Pastor for Lutheran Campus Ministries, an ecumenical campus ministry at the University of New Mexico.

The Southwest Conference will receive the recommendation of the Committee on Church and Ministry, hear the candidate’s presentation, and further examine the candidate. The Southwest Conference will vote on whether to authorize ordination, pending an approved call.

Her Preparation and Formation Plan based on the Marks included: 

 

  • Master of Theological Studies from the Ecumenical Institute for Ministry/ St. Norbert College in Albuquerque, NM 2018-2022. 

  • Practical Experience:  

    • East Central Ministries Community Development Ministry in Albuquerque, NM. Co-Director and Community Organizer. 2001-2014. 

    • First Congregational United Church of Christ in Albuquerque, NM. Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries. 2018-2021. 

    • Lutheran Campus Ministry of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. Lay Pastor. 2021- present.  

  • Mentoring by a local pastor: Rev. Dr. Judith Todd of the Presbyterian USA Church. 

  • Psychological Assessment: 2022. 

  • Boundary Training: 2022 United Church of Christ Southwest Conference. 

  • UCC Theology, History, and Polity Course: Rev. Dr. Toni Hawkins, 2023. 

  • Cultural Competency Training: 2022 United Church of Christ Southwest Conference.

All churches of the Southwest Conference are invited to send three authorized delegates to act on their church's behalf. A two-thirds vote is required for action. A quorum shall consist of a simple majority of churches in the Conference and as wide a representation of clergy as possible. It shall be the responsibility of the Committee on Church and Ministry section A to see that a quorum is present.
