In response to the Covid-19 crisis, Valley Interfaith Project is sharing this video featuring Arizona family members and Bishop Jennifer Reddall of the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona telling their stories and expressing concerns about the lives and health of loved ones who are incarcerated.
After viewing the video, please add your name to the petition for Director Shinn of the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) and Dr. Cara Christ, Director of the Arizona Department of Health Services (DHS) to protect prison staff, inmates, and their families during the COVID-19 crisis.
VIP and the Arizona Interfaith Network are asking for four critical measures to be taken to protect prisoners, staff and the families of both, using a portion of the state's substantial CARES Act resources.
Immediately implement a universal testing blitz to test all inmates and staff within three weeks.
Expedite compassionate and early release of selected inmates to reduce both prison crowding and the spread of the virus, in a secure manner consistent with public safety.
Develop a quarantine system for outgoing prisoners and accelerate Medicaid enrollment for those re-entering society.
Provide adequate PPE for prisoners and staff. Everyone is entitled to a safe place to live and work.
