NATIONAL OPEN AND AFFIRMING SUNDAY!
June 27 is National Open and Affirming Sunday! Always celebrated on the fourth Sunday of June, the Coalition created ONA Sunday as an opportunity for congregations to renew their commitment to support LGBTQIA+ neighbors and their families. On June 7, we'll release an inspiring worship and music video, along with worship resources to help you build your own ONA service. Let’s celebrate the rapid growth of our movement, hold our 1,700 ONA churches and ministries in prayer, and commit to growing our movement until the UCC is not just 33%, but 100% ONA!
CELEBRATE ONA SUNDAY WITH OUR NEW T-SHIRTS!
Just 10 days left on our ONA t-shirt sale! Order in time for guaranteed delivery before ONA Sunday! Our theme for this campaign is “thriving in community.” When we resist and persist against laws and rulings that seek to diminish us, we thrive when we respond together in community.
FIVE YEARS AFTER THE PULSE MASSACRE
Five years ago, the LGBTQIA+ family was devastated when a shooter killed 49 and wounded 53 at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. Most of the victims were Latinx. Gather with the UCC at 3:30 pm June 3 to remember and pray. The service is part of the UCC's “Thursdays for the Soul” series.
DECISION DAY ON LGBTQ+ ADOPTION RIGHTS
The Supreme Court decision on a case that could curb the rights of LGBTQ+ Americans could come as early as Tuesday, June 1. “Fulton v. Philadelphia” aims to give religious adoption agencies the right to refuse services to LGBTQ+ parents, and still demand millions in public funding. The UCC national setting and the ONA Coalition endorse the virtual Decision Day Rally and Town Hall event that will take place on the day the ruling is released. Even if the decision favors discrimination, a high turnout will strengthen momentum for laws that protect our community. For more background, read the General Synod resolution, drafted by the Coalition, on the “Right of LGBT Parents to Adopt and Raise Children.”
