Update: Information from Rev. Dr. Cari Jackson on Desert Star Family Planning
Desert Star Family Planning is the only solo Black Woman owned Independent Abortion Provider in the United States. The clinic has been operating in Phoenix for 9 years and has become a trusted provider of reproductive healthcare, gender affirming care, community education, and clinical training.
Dr. DeShawn Taylor, MD, FACOG, owner of @desertstarfp which, provides abortion care in addition to gender affirming care and general gynecology. Under the pressure and uncertainty during the week leading up to the SCOTUS decision overruling the constitutional right to abortion in the U.S., Desert Star has stopped providing abortion care services. After nine years of building a supportive community health care center at Desert Star and over 21 years of providing abortion, Dr. Taylor now has to turn away patients for their abortion appointments.
In recent years, Desert Star has been 1 of 3 independent (not affiliated with Planned Parenthood) abortion care providers in Arizona. One has closed and another is on the verge of closing. Desert Stars is striving to remain open so that abortion care services can be resumed once this legislative chaos is over.
