Church Jottings 11/24/2018

Church of the Palms continued a 22 year tradition and served 297 Thanksgiving dinners to the Sun City community.

The Choraliers will perform a “Christmas Cafe Concert” on Dec 2nd at 3PM at Church of the Beatitudes. 

The Good Shepherd in Sahuarita will host Lecia Brooks from the Southern Poverty Law Center on Nov 30th and Dec 1st. Her topic on Fri at 7PM will be Hate Groups in Southern AZ. On Saturday at 9AM she will discuss the work of the SPLC.

Shepherd of the Hills will offer Taize prayer opportunities on Tuesdays during Advent starting Dec 5th at 6PM.

Churches are gearing up to provide gifts for a variety of populations this Christmas:

  • Church of the Red Rocks is collecting winter clothing for 27 homeless school children as well as gifts for low-income seniors

  • Church of the Beatitudes has adopted families from a local school to fulfill their Christmas wishes

  • Church of the Good Shepherd in Alb. Is collecting gifts for homeless LGBTQ teens

  • Shadow Rock has an Angel Tree to support a preschool agency serving special needs children

  • The Good Shepherd in Sahuarita is holding an Alternative Gift Fair so members can choose among a variety of agencies to support

  • United Church of Santa Fe is collecting 2019 calendars and Christmas cards for those in prison.

  • And this is just a sample.

First Congregational in Albuquerque Is holding a “Re-Gifting Event” where unused gifts you received in past years can be sold to others who might like them or be able to use them for gifts to others.

Black Mountain asked its members to take pictures of “what is lovely, what is inspiring, and where we see goodness and God at work” and send them to the church office. Each week during Advent there will be a slide show of the collection.

DUET will hold its Grandfamily Holiday Party at Church of the Beatitudes on Dec 14th at 5:30. Church members will help set up and staff the big event.

Church of the Painted Hills' neighbors at the Greasewood Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have invited them to join them and other faith communities for a Christmas Sing-Along on Sunday December 9 at 6:00. Each choir will lead in the singing of three Christmas carols followed by a time of fellowship.
