Church of the Palms' socially-distanced parking lot Pride Parade

Senior Minister Rev. Paul Whitlock writes:

It felt like Palm Sunday, Easter, and Pentecost all rolled into one! It felt like worship—because it was! Anytime we celebrate the love which God has given, anytime we gather (even in our cars), anytime we truly celebrate diversity within humanity, it is worship. Plus, it was one of the best parades in which I have participated—I’m talking about our ONA Anniversary Gay Pride Parking Lot Parade!

Thank you to all who participated. Honoring our six-year anniversary of becoming ONA, 17 vehicles and 2 golf carts lined the parade route. They all had, to varying degrees, decorated their means of transportation (and in some cases, themselves!). 3 adoring fans (appropriately distanced) filled the grandstands, 1 photographer documented our experience, plus 1 neighbor waved from her backyard viewpoint. Popsicles were provided for any takers. Laughter was the most popular language spoken. Joy was palatable. The Spirit was alive! It was The Palms being the palms of Jesus once again. My heart was deeply moved. Thank you!

I will hold onto that experience for a while. It was a reminder of a time when we gathered and celebrated God in our midst in a very special way.

Until we gather in-person, please be safe and be The Palms.

Shalom, Paul
