With the COVID-19 emerging this spring, Rincon UCC’s Creation Care team had to put their re-wilding project on hold. Their plan is to reclaim significant portions of their campus as native habitat.
The project is still growing, though! A member has kept tending the fledgling trees coming up on their own, as well as planting new plants. This is a photo of a newly-planted prickly pear cactus at the edge of a sad corner plot, which awaits rejuvenation.
The Creation Care team has revised their re-wilding schedule, with plans to recruit volunteers early in August to reclaim the northwest corner of the church campus beginning on October 1. Healthy protocols for working together will be developed in the event we’re still dealing with the coronavirus. On we grow!
