The Nominating Committee is on the lookout for talented individuals from churches within the Southwest Conference to join our various standing committees. Today, we're spotlighting COM B (COVENANT) and the Nominating Committee (MATCHING).
COM B
Covenant is a BIG WORD in the United Church of Christ. In the UCC, that which binds us to one another is covenant. Our churches are diverse. So the only way for such diverse churches to co-exist is for them to be “in covenant” with one another. COM B is the face of that covenant within the SW Conference and extending to the UCC wider church.
Q/A
How often does the COM B Committee meet? 1x per month
How long are the meetings? Generally not more than an hour and a half.
Is the work done mostly during the meetings? Most reporting is done during the meeting, using Basecamp for updating. Also, some time in between meetings is needed to visit with churches assigned to each member, either by phone or in person.
How much time does it take in between meetings? This can be negotiated, and does depend on what is going on. COM B is in charge of grants to churches, and needs to check in with those churches -- and review reports. Currently, COM B is also working its way through the new Manual on the Church which takes some time between meetings.
Does it meet virtually or in-person? We meet by Zoom -- but some travel could be involved to visit with churches
